Tuition support to increase for staff taking classes

The maximum tuition support dollars available to staff members continuing their education will increase on Aug. 1.

Under the Tuition Support Program, full-time staff members taking non-U-M courses are eligible for 75 percent of the cost of in-state tuition plus registration fees up to the new maximum of $1,428 per term.

This represents an increase of 5.6 percent to the tuition support ceiling, which matches the average percentage of resident undergraduate tuition increase approved by the Board of Regents for the Ann Arbor campus.

Part-time staff members with a 50 percent or greater appointment are eligible for tuition support proportional to their appointment fraction.

Full-time staff members enrolled in U-M courses continue to be eligible for 75 percent of the cost of in-state tuition plus registration fees for up to four credit hours per term. Part-time staff members with a 50 percent or greater appointment are eligible for tuition support proportional to their appointment.

The increase is determined by the average percentage increase in resident undergraduate tuition at U-M Ann Arbor, and the maximum is adjusted annually to offer greater accessibility to educational opportunities. The same 5.6 percent increase in the tuition support ceiling applies to U-M-Dearborn and U-M-Flint.

Additional information on the Tuition Support Program (SPG 201.69) can be found in the Standard Practice Guide, www.umich.edu/~spgonlin/. Staff members represented by a collective bargaining unit should consult their agreements for details on tuition support.
