Flint project chosen to test first nationwide rating system for sustainable landscapes
UM-Flint’s Urban Alternatives House has been selected to participate in a new program testing the nation’s first rating system for green landscape design, construction and maintenance. Sustainable landscapes can clean water, reduce pollution and restore habitats, while at the same time providing significant economic and social benefits to land owners and municipalities.

ITS food drive aids effort to help the hungry
Information and Technology Services employees have opened their hearts — and their cupboards — to help the hungry of Washtenaw County. A recent ITS Spring Food Drive for Food Gatherers raised $2,825 and more than 300 pounds of food, qualifying the team as "Big Rutabaga" sponsors of the Food Gatherers' Grillin' 2010 fundraiser.

On the road to smooth pavement
Road contractors use precision instruments to gauge pavement quality and smoothness before a new highway opens to the public. Making sure those “road profilers” are accurate is key to quality control in road building. Researchers and engineers at the U-M Transportation Research Institute have an integral role in that process, having developed a machine that sets benchmarks for measuring the accuracy of road-profiling equipment.
