A video commissioned by the U-M Health System’s Department of Neurosurgery is part of a public-service effort to prevent spinal cord injuries. The campaign, timed to coincide with the start of the summer swimming and boating season, seeks to encourage safe swimming and diving. Group honors UMHHC with top environmental award for fourth year
For a fourth year, U-M Hospitals and Health Centers has received the highest environmental achievement award presented by Practice Greenhealth, a national membership organization of health care facilities committed to environmentally responsible operations.

UM-Flint receives its largest alumnus gift
A UM-Flint alumnus and his wife have pledged $1.4 million, the largest donation to the school by an alum, UM-Flint Chancellor Ruth Person says. The gift brings the total amount donated by David Zick and his wife, Francine, to more than $2 million. It will be divided among several scholarship, research and educational projects.

On the road to smooth pavement
Road contractors use precision instruments to gauge pavement quality and smoothness before a new highway opens to the public. Making sure those “road profilers” are accurate is key to quality control in road building. Researchers and engineers at the U-M Transportation Research Institute have an integral role in that process, having developed a machine that sets benchmarks for measuring the accuracy of road-profiling equipment.
