Flags to be displayed at half-staff in memory of
Sen. Robert Byrd

Consistent with state Executive Order 2006-10, flags throughout Michigan should be displayed at half-staff in memory of the late U.S. Sen. Robert Byrd, D-W.Va.

Flags are to be at half-staff through June 6, the day of Byrd’s interment..

Byrd, the Senate’s president pro tempore and its longest-serving member, died Monday at age 92. He had been a senator for 51 years, and also served six years as a U.S. representative.

When flown at half-staff or half-mast, the United States flag should be hoisted first to the peak for an instant and then lowered to the half-staff or half-mast position. The flag should again be raised to the peak before it is lowered for the day.
