Court decision says that 2006 Proposal 2 is unconstitutional
A panel of the Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals on Friday, July 1, issued a decision finding as unconstitutional Proposal 2, a ballot initiative approved by Michigan voters in 2006 that amended the Michigan Constitution to prohibit discrimination and preferential treatment based on race, ethnicity, sex, or national origin in public education, public employment, and public contracting.
REMINDER: U-M now is a smoke-free campus
As of July 1, smoking is prohibited in all university buildings, facilities, grounds and U-M-owned vehicles. The ban, announced in April 2009 by President Mary Sue Coleman, is in effect on all three campuses. Click here for more information on the Smoke-free University Initiative.

Move Out 2011 collection benefits community and environment
Students living on campus unloaded their unwanted but reusable items during Move Out 2011, resulting in more than 11 tons of materials collected and donated to local charities. This year’s collection was nearly 17 percent larger than in 2010.

Joe Burke certainly isn't the first attorney to grind out a seemingly endless series of 14-hour days. But not many can say they do so in a place like Lashkar Gah. Burke, a 1989 Law School graduate, is a foreign service officer with the U.S. Department of State in Afghanistan. As the senior American civilian in the British-led Provincial Reconstruction Team for Helmand Province he leads a group of about 120 civilians and a similar number of soldiers and Marines with the overarching goal of connecting the Afghan government to the Afghan people.
