Nadarajan named dean of School of Art & Design
Gunalan Nadarajan, who works at the intersection of the arts, science and technology, has been selected as dean of the School of Art & Design. Nadarajan, the current vice provost for research and dean of graduate studies at the Maryland Institute College of Art in Baltimore, begins work in his new post effective July 1, pending approval of the Board of Regents.
U-M researcher involved in $10 million project to advance computer programming
Making computer programming faster, easier and more intuitive is the goal of a new $10 million National Science Foundation project that involves a U-M researcher and is based at the University of Pennsylvania. The five-year Expeditions in Computer Augmented Program Engineering project includes College of Engineering Professor Stéphane Lafortune, who will work toward automating the software-debugging process.
SPH students assist in ongoing tornado relief efforts in Kentucky
Eight School of Public Health students recently returned from Kentucky, where they participated in tornado relief efforts. Their work – conducting a door-to-door community assessment – will inform ongoing relief efforts.

Jim Geiger, professor of surgery and executive director of the Medical Innovation Center, is leading a team of researchers to develop better pediatric surgical devices. Geiger’s aim is to promote the development and commercialization of many new medical technologies across all fields of health care, and to aid health care innovators in making their products a reality.
