Weeks after launching the university's bicycle rental program, semester rentals of the Blue Bikes are full. A waitlist has been created for the winter semester.

All 15 bicycles set aside for the fall semester have been rented. However, 15 bicycles remain available for daily and weekend rentals at two locations: Outdoor Adventures and the North Campus Recreational Building.

"The long-term Blue Bikes rented out instantly for the semester," said John Swerdlow, senior assistant director of Recreational Sports. "We've decided to keep the other half of the bikes available for short-term rentals for individuals or groups who may need a bicycle for a day or weekend, or professors who may need them for classes."

Program organizers intend to monitor the program this year to help inform future decisions for expanding the program and offering additional bicycles next year. The program currently offers the campus community 30 bicycles.

Blue Bikes is operated by Outdoor Adventures within Recreational Sports, and was developed in collaboration with Parking & Transportation Services, the Office of Campus Sustainability and the University Planner's Office.
