Shapiro Library to stay open around the clock
The U-M Library has announced the start of around-the-clock access to the Shapiro Library.
Beginning Monday, the Shapiro building will remain open to the U-M community 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Between midnight and 7 a.m., students, faculty and staff will be required to swipe their MCards to enter the facility.
"Students in particular have been asking for this for a long time, and it makes much more sense than turning them out of the library in the early hours of the morning," says Rebecca Dunkle, associate university librarian for operations.
Bert's Café operating hours are unchanged for now, although plans are in the works for a trial expanded schedule later in October. The Askwith Media Library will maintain its recently expanded schedule.
While holiday hours have not yet been determined, the Shapiro Library will remain open 24/7 throughout the mid-October break.
