Board of Regents contest still undetermined

The outcome of the race to decide who will fill two seats on the Board of Regents had not been determined this morning.

As of 7 a.m., 77 of Michigan's 83 counties had reported final results on the Secretary of State's website. Yet to report were Allegan, Berrien, Genesee, Kent, Muskegon and Wayne counties.

Although Democrat Mark Bernstein held a decided lead for one of the seats, just a few thousand votes separated Democrat Shauna Ryder Diggs, Republican Dan Horning and Republican Robert Steele. Six third-party candidates were drawing considerably fewer votes.

Check back with the Record Update later today to learn the final results of the race to succeed Regents Olivia P. Maynard and S. Martin Taylor, both Democrats, who did not seek re-election.
