In his new role, Denton's principal responsibilities include hospital operations for the adult University Hospital, C.S. Mott Children's Hospital and Women's Hospital at the U-M Health System (UMHS).

Denton also will oversee hospital-based departments and most support services within UMHHC.

Denton's career with UMHS dates back to 1981, when he began serving a two-year fellowship in Academic Health Administration at the Medical Campus.

During his 23-year career at UMHS, he has served in various staff and management positions in Human Resources. From 1986-1987, Denton held the title of manager of corporate affairs for M-CARE, the managed care organization developed by U-M. Denton also earned a law degree from the University of Detroit in 1987.

Since 1993, he has assumed several administrative positions, including his most recent title as associate hospital administrator and associate hospital director for operations, as well as associate director for clinical services and administrator of University Hospital.

Most notably, Denton led the creation of a parent-subsidiary relationship between the Michigan Health Corporation and the Michigan Visiting Nurse Corp., having served as chairman of the board from 1997-2003.
