In only his second year as a entrant in the University Photographers’ Association of America (UPAA) national print competition, Scott Galvin was named the 2007 UPAA Photographer of the Year. Galvin, a staff photographer for U-M Photo Services since September 2005, received the award during the association’s national conference in Chicago in June. He also received Best of Show for “Splash,” a photo of a U-M swimmer leaping into the pool during the Wolverine Invitational. Three of his other images received top honors in the categories of Portraits, Sports, and News & Features—all first place awards. This is the second consecutive year that Galvin has placed first in the portrait category.
This marks the second consecutive year that a U-M Photo Services employee has been named as the UPAA Photographer of the Year. In 2006 Martin Vloet received the honor. This year Vloet received honorable mentions in the categories of Photo Story and Science & Research.
The competition exhibited the work of university staff photographers from across the nation, which made up the 290 print entries. To read more about Photo Services photographers go to www.umich.edu/~photos. (Photo by Scott Galvin, U-M Photo Services)
