Regents meeting Nov. 20

The Board of Regents will have its monthly meeting at 2 p.m. Nov. 20 in the Regents Room of the Fleming Administration Building. The meeting is one hour earlier than originally scheduled. Public comments on agenda items will be taken prior to their consideration. Comments on nonagenda items will follow the regular business agenda. Campus Data Network upgrades near completion

The 2008 UMnet Distribution Layer Switch (DLS) upgrades in 19 campus buildings are nearing completion. Plans for the second year of the four-year project call for upgrades in another 36 buildings beginning in May 2009. The DLS connects local data networks to the UMnet Backbone network. One new DLS per building will be funded as part of the UMnet Backbone infrastructure. Units that seek a second for their building may purchase it through ITCS/ITCom. UMHS receives organ donation honor

The U-M Health System (UMHS) has been awarded an Organ Donation Medal of Honor from the U.S. Department of Health & Human Services. UMHS received the honor Oct. 24 during the Fourth Annual National Learning Congress on Organ Donation and Transplantation in Nashville, Tenn. The hospital earned the recognition by collaborating with its Gift of Life Michigan partners to achieve the national goal of converting at least 75 percent of eligible deaths to organ donors. UMHS also was recognized for being one of six in the state and 93 nationwide to have earned the Medal of Honor all four years it has been awarded.

Humanities fellowships available

The Institute for the Humanities invites applications for faculty and graduate student fellowships for 2009-10. Faculty fellowships are for tenured and tenure-track faculty at the Ann Arbor, Dearborn and Flint campuses. The deadline for submitting applications is 5 p.m. Dec. 1. Ten-month graduate student fellowships are for doctoral students who have attained candidacy at the time of application. Application deadline is 5 p.m. Jan. 9. A new Project InfoCenter is available through the Michigan Administrative Information Services (MAIS) Web site ( This section comprehensively covers projects led by MAIS to support University priorities, such as increasing revenues from nonstate sources like research and fundraising.
