Regents meeting Oct. 23

The Board of Regents will hold its monthly meeting at 3 p.m. Oct. 23 in the Michigan Rooms at the Harding Mott University Center, U-M-Flint. Public comments on agenda items will be taken prior to their consideration. Comments on nonagenda items will follow the regular business agenda. European Union Center honored

The Delegation of the European Commission in Washington, D.C., has announced the European Union Center of Excellence is one of 11 such centers at universities throughout the United States recently selected as grant recipients. The 11 were chosen from a field of 23 candidates. The network of EU Centers of Excellence promotes the study of the EU, its institutions and policies and EU-U.S. relations.

Program wins media award

The Comprehensive Cancer Center's Center for Health Communications Research, in collaboration with Henry Ford Health System, has been awarded a Freddie International Health and Medical Media Award for a program aimed at smoking prevention/cessation and asthma management in urban teens. Asthma is the most common crippling disease of children in the United States. Its prevalence is highest among African Americans in urban, low-income areas.
