Sound testing planned at Michigan Stadium

The University will conduct a sound test at Michigan Stadium from approximately 3:30-7 p.m. March 13. The test, which will involve generating a 140-decibel sound that is much like that of a cannon shot, will occur a limited number of times. A noise generator will be placed in front (bowl side) of the scoreboard on the north and measurements will be taken by receptors placed all around the inside of the stadium bowl. The tests are being done to prepare for sound system changes that might be required with the new sideline structures in place. Testing the sound inside the bowl will help assess the needs of the public address system, such as where the speakers should be located and what the settings should be in light of the slightly changed acoustics at the stadium.

Regents meeting March 19

The Board of Regents will have its monthly meeting at 3 p.m. March 19 in the Regents Room of the Fleming Administration Building. Public comments on agenda items will be taken prior to their consideration. Comments on nonagenda items will follow the regular business agenda. DTV switch won't affect UMTV cable programming

Many broadcast stations postponed the switch from analog to digital signals from Feb. 17 to June 12, and UMTV, which pulls programming from several digital channels, will go on uninterrupted and be of the same high quality. Information Technologies Central Services has taken the necessary steps to ensure that UMTV cable service will continue service. For those who own a digital television or plan to buy one soon, UMTV Cable already broadcasts DTV/HDTV signals, using the HDTV standard (also known as 64QAM).
