A limestone countertop and a practiced eye played roles in the discovery of a fossil trove that may shed light on the origins of African wildlife. After the fossils were found by masons, Philip Gingerich, curator and director of the Museum of Paleontology, traveled to Egypt to investigate. He, along with other investigators, uncovered fossils from what may be the first mammals to migrate from Asia to Africa.

Important update on U-M response to swine flu
University leaders say that while they continue to monitor the swine flu outbreak, the absence of confirmed cases at any of the three campuses means there is no public health threat at this time. So, as of this moment, they say, it is business as usual for most at U-M.

UM-Dearborn gives out Susan B. Anthony, community awards
Bonnie Beyer and Patricia Schlaff have been chosen by UM-Dearborn’s Commission for Women as recipients of the 31st annual Susan B. Anthony award, which recognizes a member of the campus community who has made significant contributions to gender equality. Also, Cheryl Johnson, chief executive officer of the Coalition on Temporary Shelter, received the sixth annual Susan B. Anthony Community Award.

UM-Flint offers new program to help teachers become administrators
UM-Flint is offering an online/weekend master’s degree program for elementary and secondary teachers ready to make the move into school administration. The program, called WebPlus, will offer a Master of Public Administration in Educational Administration degree through the Rackham School of Graduate Studies.

University retiree Fred Remley, 79, at right with Clinical Associate Professor of Pharmacy Tami Remington, says direct pharmacist involvement in medication therapy management has impacted his quality of life by helping to manage the medication he uses. He takes part in MHealthy: Focus on Medicines, a university/College of Pharmacy partnership to improve health outcomes.
