Street and parking changes related to art fairs

Several streets that run through or next to the Ann Arbor campus will be closed beginning Monday and Tuesday morning for the Ann Arbor Art Fairs, which will July 21- 24.

They are as follows:

• North University Avenue from South State Street to Fletcher Street (closed for Townie Street Party on July 19 and for Art Fair July 21-24)

• North University Avenue from Fletcher Street to Church Street (closed for Central Campus Transit Center construction.  Will be open during Art Fair for vehicular and bus traffic only between 6:30 a.m. and 1:30 a.m.  Pedestrian traffic will be prohibited at all times.)

• South State Street from East Washington Street to Monroe Street

• South University Avenue from South State Street to Washtenaw Avenue

• East University Avenue from South University Avenue to Willard Street

• Church Street from south of the Church Street parking structure (525 Church Street) to Willard Street

• East Liberty Street from South Main Street to South State Street

• Maynard Street from East Liberty Street to East Jefferson Street

• South Thompson Street half a block south from East Liberty Street

• South Main Street from Huron Avenue to East William Street

The Ann Arbor Street Art Fair will surround Ingalls Mall. Ann Arbor’s South University Avenue Art Fair will extend along South University Avenue and East University Avenue. The Guild Summer Art Fair will continue along South Main Street and South State Street, while the State Street Art Fair will be located in the East Liberty Street area.

The listing below outlines operational details that have been planned in order to continue services to the campus-building occupants in the areas of the Art Fair:

• The Thayer Street parking structure will remain open to U-M permit holders. U-M permit holders will be able to access the structure via East Washington Street to South Thayer Street.

• Lot C10 (the small surface parking lot by West Hall) will not be available for normal parking.

• During the Art Fair days, all U-M parking structures will remain gated to only allow vehicles with appropriate U-M permits to enter. After 3:30 p.m. weekdays and all day Saturday, special event parking permits will be sold at the structures where adequate vacancies occur.

• The Chemistry Building dock will remain open, as will the intersection of Fletcher Street and North University Avenue.

• Beginning July 19, U-M “Commuter” route buses will follow traditional “Art Fairs” routes, which include relocating the U-M Museum of Art/State Street stop west to Division Street and the South University Avenue stops to Hill Street. The “Northwood” route buses will follow the normal route during Art Fair week (not the construction detour currently in place for the Central Campus Transit Center project). Stops on North University Avenue (near the C.C. Little Building and the Ruthven Museum) will be adjusted eastward to avoid the construction.  Alternate route maps are located on the Parking & Transportation Services Web page.
