Students put their cooking skills on the line

Ten cooking savvy students brought their culinary skills to the MI Cooking Competition event at Pierpont Commons on Wednesday.

The event, hosted by University Unions Arts and Programs, challenged the students to prepare an entree of their choice from ingredients provided by University Catering. They had 30 minutes to plan, prepare and plate the dish before it was judged by John Merucci, University Unions chef, and Will Atkins, UUAP program adviser. Students also were allowed to text votes in.

Two finalists were chosen to compete in a final 15-minute dessert cook-off. The winning chef was Ben Isaacoff and the runner-up was Molly Willette-Green. Both students volunteer at Project Flavor, a student organization that prepares meals for the Ronald McDonald House of Ann Arbor several times a month.
