Former Senate majority leader addresses V-BID symposium

Former U.S. Senate majority leader Tom Daschle meets with a select group of students from the School of Public Health before delivering the keynote address at the U-M Center for Value-Based Insurance Design symposium on Wednesday. The Center for V-BID is housed at SPH and promotes the concept of aligning patients' out-of-pocket costs, such as co-pays and premiums, with the relative value of specific health services. The Center for V-BID is a leader in developing and communicating the concept of value-based insurance design, and played a pivotal role in the inclusion of V-BID in national health care reform legislation, as well as in numerous state initiatives. Daschle, who left the Senate in 2005, now is a senior policy adviser to the law firm of DLA Piper. Click here to learn more about value-based insurance design. (Photo by Peter Smith Photography)
