This patient room is part of a new adult unit at the U-M Health System’s Emergency Department that opened Wednesday. It provides additional space for patients to receive treatment, along with other improvements. The $17.7 million renovation creates 27 new patient care rooms and increases the square-footage by almost 17 percent. Research universities nurture strong corporate relationships
Companies large and small are tapping into the creative forces of innovation at Michigan's University Research Corridor institutions to create new companies, new technologies, and most importantly new jobs. U-M is one of the three URC schools with programs that connect corporate partners to university services, such as recruitment, faculty research and emerging technologies.

UM-Dearborn working to develop China connections
About 11,700 miles separate southeast Michigan and China. But UM-Dearborn faculty and staff are working to bridge that gap and increase partnerships between the university and the world's most populous country.

Fifty-five Wolverines earn fall Academic All-Big Ten honors
Fifty-five Michigan student-athletes are listed on the fall 2011 Academic All-Big Ten teams, led by 11 honorees from football, 10 from women's soccer and nine from women's cross country.

Ethnic connections
Metropolitan Detroit, while ethnically diverse, also is effectively segregated, often preventing young people from connecting with others who are different from themselves. To combat this situation, a team of faculty members at the School of Social Work started Youth Dialogues on Race and Ethnicity in Metropolitan Detroit to bring together young people from various ethnic backgrounds.
