2012 Ann Arbor Art Fairs traffic update

Townie Street Party

The first event of the 2012 Ann Arbor Art Fairs is the Townie Street Party located on East Washington Street between South Thayer Street and Fletcher Street. Setup for this event will occur Sunday and will require that the street remain closed to through traffic all day Monday.

Art Fairs

This year's Art Fairs will be Wednesday, July 18, through Saturday, July 21, and several streets that run through or next to campus will be closed beginning Tuesday morning, July 17. Affected streets are as follows:

• East Washington, closed between South Thayer and Fletcher, access east of South State Street restricted to U-M employees, hotel guests and selected deliveries.

• North University Avenue from South State to Fletcher.

• South University Avenue from Tappan Avenue to Washtenaw Avenue.

• East University Avenue from South University to Willard Street.

• South State from East Washington to Monroe Street.

• South Thayer between East Washington and North University will have restricted access to the Kraus service lots C1 & C2 (permits required).

• Church Street from south of the Church parking structure (525 Church) to Willard.

• East Liberty Street from South Main to South State.

• Maynard Street from East Liberty to East Jefferson Street.

• South Thompson Street half a block south from East Liberty.

• South Main from Huron Avenue to East William Street.

Art Fairs hours will be 10 a.m.-9 p.m. Wednesday through Friday, and 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Saturday. Art Fairs take-down will begin at 6 p.m. Saturday. All affected streets will return to prior operational levels beginning Sunday morning.

The listing below outlines operational details that have been planned in order to continue services to the occupants of campus buildings in the areas of the Art Fairs:

• Parking structure/lot access – The Thayer parking structure will remain open to U-M permit holders, who will be able to access the structure via East Washington to South Thayer.

• Lot C10 (the small surface parking lot by West Hall) will not be available for normal parking.

• During the Art Fairs days, all U-M parking structures will remain gated to only allow vehicles with appropriate U-M permits to enter.

• After 4 p.m. weekdays, special event parking permits also will be sold at the Thayer, Fletcher and Thompson parking structures, as vacancies are available and all day Saturday at the Thayer, Fletcher, Thompson, Church and Hill parking structures as vacancies are available.

• Vendor deliveries to the Chemistry Building — The Chemistry Building dock will remain open, as will the intersection of Fletcher Street and North University Avenue.

• Transit bus routes — U-M bus schedules will follow traditional Art Fairs routes beginning Monday. Alternate routes include relocating the Museum of Art South State stop west to South Division Street, and the South University stops to Hill Street.
