Pasquale, who also is a lecturer III in conducting at the School of Music, Theatre & Dance, will succeed Scott Boerma, who has accepted a position as director of bands at Western Michigan University, his undergraduate alma mater, effective June 1.

"During the past five years, Dr. Pasquale has proven himself to be a person with the necessary musical and leadership skills for this important appointment," said Michael Haithcock, director of bands.

"In addition, he has earned the respect as well as admiration of students, faculty, administrators, alumni, parents, and donors. It was only a matter of time before John Pasquale was leading a major college marching band and I am delighted that the University of Michigan will continue to benefit from his ongoing service to our campus and musical community."

Pasquale is in demand as a conductor, clinician, pedagogue, and adjudicator in band and orchestra programs throughout the United States. He received his doctorate in conducting and his master's degree in instrumental conducting from the University of Oklahoma at Norman, and his bachelor's degree in music education from Texas Christian University in Fort Worth, Texas.

A national search for a new assistant director of the Michigan Marching Band has begun and Haithcock said he hopes an appointment will be made before the end of the winter term.
