Bicentennial Class of 2017 encouraged to embrace the U-M experience
President Mary Sue Coleman told Class of 2017 students and their parents at the New Student Convocation that they are U-M's bicentennial class, marking 200 years of leadership and impact. And while much has changed at Michigan over the decades, and more changes will come during their student years, Coleman said the biggest changes in store are personal — those that come with critical thinking and the life of the mind.

University implements new policy regarding student sexual misconduct
After an extensive, campuswide development and review process, the university is starting the academic year under a new policy that makes a clear statement that sexual misconduct "will not be tolerated at the University of Michigan and is expressly prohibited."

Giordani appointed faculty ombuds
Bruno J. Giordani, professor of psychiatry, neurology and psychology, and chief psychologist in the Department of Psychiatry, has been appointed faculty ombuds. In that position, he will meet with faculty, assist in determining the nature of complaints or problems, advise on policy and explore avenues for redress.

Angell Hall computing site reopens today
Following its first significant renovation since opening in 1988, the Angell Hall computing site reopens today. The work updated approximately 32,000 gross square feet of space to expand the computing site and provide new furniture, improve accessibility, refurbish the computer classrooms on site, and install a new raised flooring system.

Safe water for Mexico
Two School of Nursing graduates were part of a water purification effort to help residents in high flood-risk areas of Mexico. Denise Soulliere and Angela Wan were part of the 2013 Clean Water Team that also included three U-M medical students and three cadets from the U.S. Military Academy. The project, part of the Eleanor Josaitis Global Initiative at Focus: Hope, focused on how the P&G Purifier of Water product could be incorporated into emergency relief protocols.
